“Black people should have recognition for themselves and their backgrounds and their relationships with other people in the world and thus lose some of their alienation. This museum has certainly stood for that in this town.” -Katherine Dunham

Join us for our first conference on the African continent — a truly Global Black Anthropology Experience!

This conference seeks to explore the unique contributions and experiences of Black scholars in anthropology, emphasizing the rich tapestry of knowledge, methodologies, and insights they bring to the discipline. We have invited scholars, researchers, and students from all over Africa and the African diaspora, representing all anthropological sub-disciplines and related fields to reflect on the history and practice of anthropology in and about Africa and the African diaspora, the contributions of people of African descent in the field, and the latest innovations in research and writing on Black communities.
