Stony Brook University Faculty Position – Assistant Professor

As part of a university-wide initiative with the Turkana Basin Institute, the Department of Anthropology at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position in the field of Primate Paleontology to begin Fall 2017.  This is the fourth of seven faculty lines to be funded by the University to increase the number of faculty with active research programs in the Turkana Basin, Kenya.

We seek an individual whose research focuses on the paleontological record of Old World non-hominin primates to take advantage of Stony Brook’s unique relationship with the Turkana Basin Institute.

We seek a candidate with an outstanding research record, a commitment to excellence in teaching, and a research plan that has the potential to establish an externally funded program involving field work in the Turkana Basin and which includes mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students.

Through this position, we seek to deliver an expanded undergraduate curriculum, to strengthen the graduate program, and to increase synergistic relations with other departments on campus such as Anatomical Sciences, Ecology & Evolution, and Geosciences.

The candidate must hold a PhD by the start date of the appointment.
